Energy Star Rating What Does It Mean to You?
Our Windows are Energy Star Rated. What does this mean to you? When you purchase a window that is ENERGY STAR qualified, it means that you are getting the most energy efficient windows that money can buy. All Windows installed by Grennan Construction have gone through rigorous testing for thermal performance and solar heat gain to become NFRC Certified and ENERGY STAR qualified for all regions of the country.
What is the Energy Star Windows Program?
The ENERGY STAR Windows Program is a voluntary partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy and the window industry to educate consumers about energy efficient products with the best thermal performance.
ENERGY STAR proves we can meet challenges like global warming through the marketplace, through new technology and innovation, and through good business sense. Together, we can build a 21st Century that is stronger, healthier, and more prosperous than any time in human history. And thanks to you, we have the leadership of industry…Congratulations and keep up the good work.”

Former Vice President
What is an NFRC Rating?
NFRC ratings were created to provide uniform testing for the industry. NFRC provides unbiased energy performance ratings for windows, doors and skylights (or “fenestration”). Independent NFRC ratings provide the basis for ENERGY STAR window performance requirements.
NFRCs labels provide product specific performance ratings for technical qualities including the following
- U-Factor–the rate of heat loss from your home through the window; the lower the number the better the rating is.
- Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)–how much heat your house gains from the sun as a result of the window’s performance; the lower the number on solar heat gain the better the rating is.
- Visible Transmittance–determines how clearly you can see through your windows; the higher the number the better the rating is.
When your U-Factors and Solar Heat Gain Coefficients are low and your Visible Transmittance number is high, you know you are getting the most thermally efficient performance you can get in your area of the country.
“Consumers who install ENERGY STAR qualified windows can put money in their pockets, have a more comfortable home and make a contribution to protect the environment. Each year families spend almost half their energy budget on heating and cooling bills. Installation of these windows could help cut 15 percent from these annual bills.”
